All About CHAN Wai Ling, Winnie

Chan Wai Ling Winnie is currently pursuing her postgraduate studies at the University of Music in Detmold, Germany. In 2021, she earned her bachelor's degree with full scholarships from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, where she was mentored by esteemed instructors Joe Kirtley and Lin Jiang. During her tenure at the Academy, she was not only awarded the coveted Dean's Prize but also secured the first prize at the Thailand International Wind Symphony Competition in 2019 with the HKAPA Wind Ensemble.

At the age of 16, Winnie clinched the championship title in the French Horn category of the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival. With the generous support of the Hong Kong Schools Music and Speech Association, she performed as a soloist alongside the orchestra of the European Youth Summer Music during a performance in the United Kingdom.

Beyond her academic pursuits, Winnie's orchestral journey has taken her across the globe, leaving an indelible mark on renowned stages across multiple continents. Her membership in the Hong Kong Youth Symphonic Band and the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra allowed her to showcase her talents in countries including Korea, Taiwan, and Russia. However, her orchestral prowess truly shone as an integral part of the Asian Youth Orchestra. In both 2018 and 2022, she contributed her artistry to extensive tours across Asia and Europe, captivating audiences in iconic cities such as Munich, Beijing, Tokyo, and Taipei.

Winnie's musical journey is punctuated by her associations with an impressive array of professional orchestras, including the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Hong Kong City Chamber Orchestra, The Opera Hong Kong Orchestra, The Hong Kong Grand Opera Orchestra, Hong Kong Festival Orchestra, Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra, and the Gustav Mahler Orchestra, among others. Her collaborations with esteemed conductors such as Jaap van Zweden, James Judd, and Joseph Bastian have further enriched her musical repertoire.

In the year 2023, Winnie graced the stage alongside world-renowned horn players, including Stefan Dohr, Sarah Willis, and Zeng Yun, at the International Horn Symposium in Montreal. Her participation in the 2018 International Horn Festival in Beijing and the 2019 Asia Horn Festival in Japan underscore her commitment to musical growth and cross-cultural collaboration.
